Prior to his professorship, David Carroll directed commercial multimedia for major interactive media clients including AOL, A&E, CNN, FOX, ESPN, HBO, PBS, Random House, Smithsonian, Sony, Sports Illustrated, Time, Warner Bros and others. His current research and creative practice focuses on the design and social concerns of mobile media. He founded the Center for Mobile Creativity at Parsons to support research projects including grants funded by MacArthur Foundation, NIH, and Pearson Foundation with industry support from the Nokia Research Centers in Palo Alto and Beijing towards context modeling and new user interfaces, the Motorola Applied Research Center to support Android development, and the Waag Society (Amsterdam) to collaborate on locative media and urban game design. In addition, Carroll serves as the New School’s agent for the Apple University iPhone Developer Program, sits on Adobe’s Partner By Design advisory board, has been recognized by the Adobe Education Leader program and is a Nokia Forum PRO member. He is currently serving a term as Co-chair of the Parsons Faculty Council as executives of the Parsons Faculty Assembly, the full-time faculty’s governance body.
